Sustainable Water Heating at Westgate Leisure Centre

Lochinvar partnered with installer DMA Maintenance Ltd to deliver a sustainable and efficient water heating solution for the swimming pool at Westgate Leisure Centre in Chichester. Operated by Everyone Active, the Centre sought to upgrade its system in line with its environmental commitments and broader decarbonisation strategy.

Objectives

The primary objective was to design and implement a water heating system that would significantly reduce the Centre’s carbon footprint without compromising on performance or user comfort. The swimming pool requires consistent and substantial heating, making energy efficiency a top priority. Everyone Active, as the operator of the facility, is committed to aligning its energy usage with the UK’s net zero targets and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

DMA Maintenance Ltd was tasked with identifying a solution that not only met current heating demands but also ensured future sustainability and cost-effectiveness. The system had to be reliable, scalable, and compatible with the Centre’s existing infrastructure while offering measurable environmental benefits.

Solution

DMA Maintenance Ltd selected the Lochinvar Amicus LT air source heat pump as the cornerstone of the new water heating system. This choice was driven by several key factors, including Lochinvar’s longstanding reputation in the commercial water heating sector and the proven performance of the Amicus range in a wide variety of conditions.

The Amicus LT model offers exceptional efficiency even in low ambient temperatures, making it ideal for year-round use at a high-demand facility like Westgate Leisure Centre. Its low carbon emissions and reduced operational costs align perfectly with Everyone Active’s sustainability goals.

Lochinvar’s ability to act as a complete solution provider also played a pivotal role in the project’s success. By supplying all necessary ancillaries, including storage tanks and controls, Lochinvar ensured a streamlined installation process and long-term system integration. This comprehensive approach simplified coordination for DMA Maintenance and contributed to a seamless project delivery.

The project is a strong example of how collaborative partnerships and forward-thinking technology can support the decarbonisation of public facilities without sacrificing performance.
