Sustainable Heating & Hot Water for Manchester Student Accommodation
Lochinvar partnered with a large nationwide student accommodation management company to deliver a sustainable, high-performance water heating and space heating solution for a new luxury 10-storey student accommodation in Manchester. The project formed part of a wider commitment to reduce carbon emissions while maintaining exceptional comfort for residents.
Objectives
The primary objective was to provide a robust and future-proof system for the production of domestic hot water (DHW) and heating across the accommodation complex. As a modern development housing a large number of residents, reliability and energy efficiency were essential.
The student accommodation management company along with the installer were also focused on long-term sustainability and reducing environmental impact. In line with national and local decarbonisation goals, the solution needed to significantly lower reliance on fossil fuels and reduce carbon emissions, while supporting peak demand in a high-occupancy building.
In addition to performance and sustainability, the chosen system needed to offer ease of integration with the existing building services, operational efficiency, and low maintenance requirements, ensuring value over the full lifecycle of the installation.
Solution
The installer selected Lochinvar’s Amicus HT air source heat pumps to meet the dual demands of DHW production and heating. The Amicus HT range was ideal for this application thanks to its ability to deliver high water temperatures and maintain excellent efficiency even in low ambient conditions—key factors for a residential property in an urban climate like Manchester’s.
Lochinvar’s long-standing expertise in water heating solutions gave the installer the confidence that the technology and support would be of the highest standard. The Amicus HT heat pumps are part of Lochinvar’s latest generation of low-carbon technology, combining proven reliability with advanced control features and excellent seasonal performance.
As a complete solution provider, Lochinvar also supplied all necessary ancillaries for the installation, including high-performance storage tanks. This helped streamline the installation process and ensured system components were fully compatible, resulting in a reliable and integrated solution.
The successful implementation at the site in Manchester demonstrates the power of collaboration and modern technology in supporting decarbonisation and providing high-quality, energy-efficient living environments.
