Supermarket Chooses Amicus AquaStore Heat Pump Water Heater for Sustainable Water Heating

This supermarket now benefits from sustainable water heating after installing Amicus AquaStore units. Europe’s largest internal heat pump water heater with a capacity of 445 litres and an output of 8 kW.

A long-standing commercial relationship with both the client and the installer played an essential role in substantiating the technical arguments behind the proposed solution.

Objective

The objective of the project was to deliver a sustainable replacement water heating solution for the supermarket’s various departments. For this project, the daily hot water demand was 1,500 litres at 60°C. This hot water is used by the butcher, fish and bakery sections, among others, for cleaning tools, utensils and floors.

The Amicus AquaStore heat pump water heater was selected, it’s a monobloc air to water heat pump with a thermal capacity of 8 kW and a maximum COP of 3.2 and it’s capable of producing domestic hot water up to 65°C. The AquaStore also features immersion elements which provide an electric backup or extra power for unusually high demands.

With its compact dimensions (78.5 cm wide, 177 cm high and 99.5 cm deep), the unit is designed for installation in plant rooms. The Amicus AquaStore uses heat from the environment to heat domestic hot water. As a secondary benefit, the unit outputs cooler air, which helps manage temperatures in warmer environments such as plant rooms. The AquaStore boasts temperature stability in all conditions thanks to two electric heating elements, located at the top and bottom of the tank.

The addition of the LSTR storage tank ensures that the various tap points always have access to extra storage volume, bringing the total capacity to around 1,000 litres. With a diameter of 76 cm and a height of 2 metres, the tank is a practical addition to the main unit without taking up unnecessary space.

Solution

This project proves that it is feasible to meet strict requirements in terms of energy savings and efficient use of space within technical installations. At the same time, it underlines the technological value and relevance of the solution developed by Lochinvar.

Thanks to “Efficiency mode” (where the heat pump is given priority) and “Hybrid mode” (a combination of thermodynamic and electrical power), the user has optimum flexibility in system management.
