Reliable Domestic Hot Water Generation at North East Academy

Sector:

Introduction

An Academy School in the North East of England required the replacement of its existing domestic hot water (DHW) system to ensure the continued provision of reliable and efficient hot water throughout the site. The project focused on upgrading the water heating plant with a modern, high-efficiency solution capable of meeting the academy’s daily hot water demands.

To deliver a dependable and energy-efficient replacement system, Lochinvar’s wall-hung condensing water heaters and storage vessels were selected, providing a compact and robust solution for the site’s DHW requirements.

Project Objectives

The project was designed to achieve several key objectives:

  • Replace the existing domestic hot water plant with a modern, high-efficiency system.
  • Improve energy performance through the use of condensing water heating technology.
  • Ensure a reliable supply of hot water to support the academy’s daily operations.
  • Maximise plant room space with a compact equipment arrangement.
  • Provide a durable and easily maintainable solution for long-term operation.

Solution

  • 4 × Lochinvar EFW Wall-Hung Condensing Water Heaters
  • 2 × Lochinvar LSTR165GE Storage Vessels

The replacement DHW system was built around four Lochinvar EFW wall-hung condensing water heaters, paired with two Lochinvar LSTR165GE storage vessels.

The cascade arrangement of the four EFW condensing water heaters provides efficient hot water generation while offering operational resilience through multiple heat sources. This configuration allows the system to modulate output in line with demand, helping to optimise energy consumption while maintaining consistent performance.

The addition of two LSTR165GE storage vessels ensures sufficient hot water storage capacity to accommodate periods of peak demand, supporting the academy’s busy daily schedule while maintaining reliable service across the site.

By utilising high-efficiency condensing technology, the new installation delivers an effective and dependable DHW solution that supports the academy’s operational requirements while improving overall system efficiency. The compact wall-hung design also enables effective use of available plant room space, creating a practical replacement system designed for long-term performance.
