Introduction
This £15m brand new care village replaces an existing care home and will provide a wide variety of services to the local community. As part of the new-build project, a new heating and hot water system was required to provide a decarbonised solution to support the building’s long-term sustainability goals.
Working as part of a refurbishment programme led by a Scottish local authority, the project team delivered a solution incorporating heat pump technology for space heating, alongside an electric system for domestic hot water (DHW) generation.
Project Objectives
The new build project sought to deliver improved efficiency and reliability of the care village’s heating and hot water systems when compared to the system used in the care home this site replaces, aligning with wider decarbonisation targets.
Key objectives included:
- Replacing ageing heating plant with a low-carbon alternative.

Solution
- 3x Amicus High Temperature Heat Pumps
- 1x Cavalier Eco Water Heater
To meet the project requirements, three Lochinvar Amicus High Temperature air source heat pumps (ASHPs) were installed to provide space heating throughout the care village. These units were commissioned in February 2026.
