Amicus Altus used at BUPA’s Richmond Villages to Decarbonise Heating System
Introduction
Richmond Villages Willaston, part of the BUPA Group, recently undertook a significant renovation project focused on improving the energy performance and sustainability of its heating system. As a leading residential care home, the facility required a dependable and energy-efficient solution to maintain comfort for residents while supporting the organisation’s wider decarbonisation goals.
Objectives
The key objective for this project was the decarbonisation of the site’s heating system, replacing older fossil-fuel-based equipment with low-carbon alternatives. Richmond Villages sought a solution that could deliver reliable performance throughout the year while substantially reducing emissions and operating costs.
Hawley Building Services was appointed to carry out the works, with the brief to design and install a system that offered both high efficiency and long-term resilience.
Solution
To meet these objectives, three Lochinvar Amicus Altus R290 Air Source Heat Pumps were supplied and installed as part of the heating system upgrade. The Amicus Altus range offers outstanding efficiency, utilising R290 refrigerant — a natural, low-GWP option that provides excellent performance even at low ambient temperatures.
The decision to specify the Amicus Altus units was driven by their proven reliability, consistent performance, and environmental credentials. Their compact design and high output made them an ideal fit for the existing building, simplifying the installation process for Hawley Building Services.
The result is a future-ready heating system that supports Richmond Villages’ ongoing commitment to sustainability while ensuring comfortable living conditions for residents. The successful installation demonstrates how air source heat pump technology can play a vital role in the decarbonisation of care facilities and similar residential environments.
