Sustainable Water Heating Solution for a Hospital in Gloucestershire

Objectives

This large healthcare provider has set ambitious goals to become the world’s first net zero health service, requiring all new infrastructure projects to incorporate low-carbon and highly efficient technologies. The water heating system at this popular Gloucestershire hospital needed to:

Solution

• x2 Amicus LT air source heat pumps
• x2 Amicus Boost water source heat pumps

To meet these objectives, Cotswold Energy Group selected Lochinvar’s Amicus LT Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) and Amicus Boost Water Source Heat Pump (WSHP) systems. The Lochinvar solution was chosen to replace the existing gas system and the Amicus Boost WSHP was chosen for its ability to deliver the high temperatures required of 72°C, without changing any of the existing infrastructure. The Amicus LT heat pump relies on R454B refrigerant which was preferred as it helped to secure funding due to a lower GWP (global warming potential) then R410A.
