Decarbonising Fairfield Leisure Centre with Solar Thermal

Lochinvar partnered with TSG Building Services PLC to design and implement an advanced solar thermal water heating system for Fairfield Leisure Centre’s swimming pool. This project was a crucial part of the leisure centre’s commitment to sustainability, aiming to reduce its carbon footprint while maintaining a reliable supply of heated water for its facilities.

Objectives

Fairfield Leisure Centre set out to modernise its swimming pool’s water heating system to align with its decarbonisation goals. The existing system, while functional, relied heavily on conventional energy sources, which were inconsistent with the centre’s environmental aspirations and long-term energy efficiency targets.

The primary objective was to develop a sustainable solution that utilised renewable energy to provide long-term efficiencies and cost savings. The solution needed to meet the high demand for hot water required to maintain the swimming pool at optimal temperatures, even during peak usage times. Additionally, Fairfield Leisure Centre required a system that was both cost-effective over its lifecycle and easy to integrate into the existing infrastructure without disrupting daily operations.
