Leading insurance provider opts for Lochinvar low carbon hot water solution

A leading UK based insurance and financial planning provider has selected a Lochinvar Amicus Aquastore as part of a refurbishment project at its headquarters building near Stratford-upon-Avon designed to improve hot water services and lower its carbon footprint.

Our client has grown into a £1bn turnover UK-wide organisation and employs more than 1,000 people at its recently refurbished HQ.

It provides meeting rooms and breakout areas, plus a café for staff as well as an on-site sports pavilion which is where the Aquastore was installed as part of a wider refurbishment.

The new hot water system was specified by Worcestershire-based commercial heating specialists Ignis Group, which first removed a plate heat exchanger and two Lochinvar storage vessels. Ignis Group worked closely alongside Adcock’s Bromsgrove Branch, who were responsible for the installation of the system.

The Aquastore is the UK’s most powerful heat pump water heater offering an output of 8kW and 445 litres of hot water storage capacity in a compact monobloc package combining heat pump and storage vessel. It can deliver up to 65degC hot water in both efficiency and hybrid modes and up to 490 litres in a peak hour with a 50degC temperature rise.

It was launched last year to serve the growing market for replacing gas-fired water heaters with low carbon alternatives and is designed to minimise disruption by avoiding the need for wholesale changes to existing heating and hot water systems.

2023 saw the Amicus AquaStore awarded the Commercial Heating Product of the Year at the 2023 HVR Awards as well as the Commercial Heat Pump Product of the Year – Heat Pump Innovation at the H&V News Awards.

Its space saving monobloc construction means it is easy to manoeuvre into position and offers plenty of options for positioning – another important consideration for replacement projects. It is also a straightforward ‘plug and play’ process to set up and commission and it comes with built in redundancy in the shape of back up immersion heating to ensure no interruptions to the hot water supply.

This approach perfectly suited the clients desire to maintain good hot water supplies for staff using its on-site sports facilities while also considerably improving the sustainability of the pavilion. It was keen to have an all-electric solution and had considered several heat pump options before deciding that the Aquastore would meet all of its requirements.
